:sorrow: I was not aware of Franklin's death on 2/28/21 and am bringing this here for others who may not be aware and to honor him and his legacy. He and Indy were moved back to AEF headquarters in 2018 from Eagle Mountain Sanctuary at Dollywood in 2018 and they are going to move or may have already moved Indy back to the sanctuary. As they thought he was already 5 y/o when he arrived in 1995, he either was 31 y/o or about to be. Franklin 1990-2021.

American Eagle Foundation is saddened to announce the loss of our beloved educational eagle ambassador, Franklin. After surviving a gunshot wound in 1995, Franklin was deemed non-releasable due to a wingtip amputation and was brought to American Eagle Foundation. Franklin lived on Eagle Mountain Sanctuary at Dollywood Theme Park for over 25 years and was one half of a USFWS-permitted bald eagle breeding pair with Independence, fondly known as Frank & Indy. As a nesting pair, Frank and Indy contributed significantly to the resurgence of the bald eagle population in the Great Smoky Mountains with over 30 offspring released into the wild. In 2018 Frank and Indy were moved back to American Eagle Foundation headquarters.
In consideration for the well-being of Independence (Indy), she will return to Eagle Mountain Sanctuary alongside the nation’s largest non-releasable bald eagle population. You can watch Indy alongside other educational eagle ambassadors at http://www.dweaglecams.org or by visiting Dollywood Theme Park.

:sorrow: JC19 This is the youngest and the 2nd chick to pass from this nest this season at ETSU Johnson City. From FB:

04/15/21-It is with GREAT sadness that I have to announce that JC19 has passed away this morning. We have no way of knowing what occurred, JC19 was lethargic yesterday and did not want to eat so we suspected a pellet needed to be cast. This morning JC19 cast a big pellet @ 6:04am and not long after that he/she appeared to be non-responsive. Unfortunately the facts are that only 50% of Eagles make it thru their first year of life. It is very hard to watch the bad things that occur while watching wild animals, but we have to take the good with the bad and continue to hope/pray that JC18 will continue to thrive and fledge successfully! Fly Free JC19 you will be in our hearts forever!
