New bald eagle nest!
Westminister CO: New 2019
Nest Location: Nest is in the City of Westminister CO about 12 miles north of Denver.

"THANKS FOR WATCHING THE 2019/2020 NESTING SEASON!
HDOnTap is excited to announce a new partnership with the City of Westminster! The live stream is intended to educate viewers by showing nature in an ungauraded fashion. This eagle cam does not interfere for intervene and allows nature to take its course.

BALD EAGLE HISTORY:

Since January of 1993, a mated pair of Bald Eagles has been nesting on the northwest side of Standley Lake. When the eagles were first observed building a nest, Standley Lake officials closed off access to the area so the eagles would be undisturbed in their attempt to nest. Bald eagles usually mate for life and reuse nest sites. Because they are sensitive to human disturbance, it is imperative that the area remains closed to protect the nesting habitat.

In 1996, the eagles successfully produced their first pair of offspring. They have continued in that success for the last 21 consecutive years, producing two eaglets each of those years, except in 2015 and 2017 when they were successful in raising three eaglets! The eagles have been using that same nest for 24 years, until this past year when they decided to build a new nest just to the east of their old nest site.

They usually lay their eggs in the first weeks of February. Incubation lasts for a period of approximately 35 days, at which time one to two nestlings will hatch. These nestlings will first leave the nest in late May to early June, approximately 72 days after hatching. Both parents take care of the young eagles even after they leave the nest. The young will leave the area sometime before October or November, either on their own or when the parents force them out."

Quite a change from when I was there in July! Record setting heat exceeding 90º and no AC.

It was still a lovely trip.

On April 7 watchers witnessed a fight between the female and another eagle.
She has not been seen since by either cam watchers or ground crews. :sorrow:
Dad has been doing nest duties as best he can. :15heartbeat:

A borrowed picture from The Standley Lake Eagle Cam page of the lone eaglet.

Stanley Lake at Westminster CO Eagles. More sad news. After laying 3 eggs in early March, Mom was attacked on April 7 and has not been seen since by cam or by searchers on the ground. Dad took over incubating and on April 12 one eaglet hatched. While Dad did his best, he was both defending the nest, incubating, and brooding. Today the little one did not make it.
Sadly eagle calendar updated. :sorrow:

Standley Lake account as told by Lori Golden, Admin for the Standley Lake Eagle Cam FB page.
:loveheart: It is always nice to get the first hand account.

"Hi Standley Lake Family and Friends:

We have had a lot of new members join and I understand there is miss information that is being shared out there so I wanted to make sure everyone here knows the correct details.

I was on site at the nest area on 4/6/2020 evening after a few members had posted photo's of Mom and Dad being pretty upset. I watched on the camera for a little while (starting around 4:30 pm) and then decided to head out to the nest area myself as they both kept looking up straight up to the sky which is unusually for them to do. My first worry was that since we were so close to hatching time that maybe since the camera view wasn't directly into the bole of the nest that maybe someone was out there with a drone which is illegal that was maybe that's why they were so upset for so long.

When I arrived around 5:15pm both Mom and Dad where just chilling on the top branch sunning themselves. I posted a photo I took from my cell phone on the page that shows them doing this. It's not the best photo as the nest is a very long way from the area that I was but I knew that they were not in view of the camera and there was a lot of yelling earlier that worried you all as well as myself.

I started taking photos of them with my Nikon camera, when shortly after they were just chilling Dad went down to the nest and Mom took off. Then I saw Dad take off and join Mom in a full on chase of a 3rd eagle and they all 3 flew east of the nest over the ground area not the lake area. Mom right above the 3rd eagle and Dad higher above. They flew over the trees that are at entrance of the park at 100th Ave and Simms St heading towards Wayne Carle Middle School. I lost site of them with my eyes but was able to see them with my binoculars. They all 3 did a big turn south and because all the tall trees I could only see Dad as he was higher then Mom and the other eagle as they all headed towards the nest. As they cleared the trees the 3rd eagle went down very low to the ground, Mom right above it and Dad high above the both of them. Dad landed at the nest branch and Mom and the other eagle landed in a tree not to far from the nest. Mom and Dad were both yelling like crazy this whole time. Mom then took off from her branch and went at the other eagle and they both went up into the air and locked talons and fell to the ground and began fighting under the nest on the ground this happened around 6:20pm. I was watching both live and with my camera as I was recording. After a bit they both stopped and there was no movement. I then started reaching out to the staff at the park to let them know what I had just witnessed. They sent a ranger out who got a hold of CPW and both went onsite and didn't locate Mom. I did see one of the eagles fly up from the area on the ground into a tree just east of the nest but by that time it was pretty dark to say which one it was. I didn't see the other one come up but as we know they didn't locate Mom under the area and that she hasn't been seen since.

The attack that happened at night that evening at 10 pm that was posted and shared on the internet, the news, and other outlets is an attack on Dad who was in the nest not Mom.

The photos and video I took of these events have not been posted but they have been shared and seen by the authorities.

Thank you for your time."
