Banding day has been set!

We will TRY to do a Facebook live event from the Indiana Michigan Power Center on Friday May 23rd at 3:30. At that time the DNR will retrieve the chick from the nest box under the protest of Moxie and Jamie, It will be brought downstairs where the DNR will place both the federal and colored bands on its legs and they will also do a quick wellness check, provide the sex and it will be named at that time. I'm pretty sure that Indiana Michigan will also be recording the event so if we aren't able to go "live" on FB, I will try to post a copy of their recording if available.

Its a peeple! They e got their umbrellas out so Moxie and Jamie don’t hurt them for stealing their kid! The kid isn’t giving up easily- it tried to bite the banders glove :biggrin:

They have gone downstairs now where the chick will be banded, given a health check and a name!

Fern spends a lot of time alone lately. Moxie cam by with some prey and fed her about3 1/2 hours ago. Mom left abruptly with a little prey left, which Fern picked at. I wonder if there is an intruder bothering them?

Well now, little Fern has left her box! Guess she got tired of being stuck there! I will post when I see her… OK- Little Fern lost her balance at 6:06 this morning, and fell in to the area below the nestbox. This happens every year, parents will take care of the misplaced chick, and after a bit the chick will find its way back to the nestbox. I saw her go by on a lower walkway at 6:38 AM……
