Grinnell Jr. fledged at 5:58 this evening! (6/18/22)

Alrighty, so that was fast... Grinnell Jr. hopped out the window, immediately flew in a quick loop and landed back on the nest level. He then flew again a minute later and is now in a tree. Both chicks have passed the first major test and had successful first flights!

Very sad news from Cal Falcons as Lindsay has been found dead on campus.

Sad news to share with you all: Lindsay was found dead today on the west edge of campus. Lindsay was last seen at the Campanile in the first week of August and it appears that she likely died not too long after those observations.
The first year of life for a falcon is exceptionally difficult - survival is approximately 40-50% for young birds. Juvenile raptors need to learn to hunt on their own and protect themselves from a wide range of dangers, everything from window strikes to starvation.
In this case, we think the most likely scenario is that Lindsay was killed by another raptor, a Red-shouldered Hawk. Although adult Peregrine Falcons are unlikely to be threatened by other raptors, young birds are vulnerable to predation from other species. This is one of the reasons we see adult falcons so aggressively exclude other raptors from their territory.
We're sorry to share this sad news with everyone, and wanted to thank Lindsay for all the wonderful memories from this year.

And now Alden has not been seen for 5 days. Have seen posts all summer and fall and even a few days ago of him. A new male hanging out and Annie is receptive to him...
