phoenix flew about 44 minutes ago. will get you tape when I have it. a good flight they say

quote

For those who may have blinked, he took off from the upper west ledge, seeming to go east, but he landed with finesse on the Bris, which is on the west side.. He is out of view of the camera unfortunately, at least for now.

from Paula
A parent was flying past going east when Phoenix decided to pursue. He first flew that direction, east, then headed back around the south end heading west then north. He eventually turned around to the west side looking for a landing which he determined that a sunshade 6 levels down was a good place to be. He flew high, looking good with a decent landing as well.

He may stay put for awhile now but who knows

sad news. I am heart broken.

from Paula
After such a wonderful morning with Phoenix venturing out on his first flight and doing such a great job, staying high and doing a fairly good landing we were certainly all excited. Then the usual - waiting for that afternoon siesta and activity to start up again. When he took off again his flight wasn't as good this time going lower and lower. He ended up in a bad place to get himself out of and to put it delicately flew into a glass wall and mercifully died instantly. Obviously this is not the ending we hoped for. It has been a really long and difficult year for our pair, their eggs and offspring.
I'm sure you can understand how devastated all of us are that have spent so much time following them thru this extremely long season. As much as we mourn the loss we also realize that this is another education for us in how nature works at times. We had some wonderful visitor's come by this year where we got to discussion many things peregrine so that is one of the good things that came out of the season - education. We always have to take the bad with the good. I'm not sure what happens next as we struggle to comprehend this tragedy.
Personally I need to absorb all the events from today so please give me some time before I compose and send out my next email to the group. A big group hug to my fellow fledge watchers who attended this year, my fellow camops that supported me so much this season and to all of our forum members that always hold hope for a successful season. Unfortunately, this year it was not meant to be.

Thank you for your support.

Yesterday they cleaned up the place and moved the nest box all the way back against the wall. No more eggs there now.
