:15heartbeat: Just got through watching that feed. Still trying to offer them the whole hunk of prey, then as you said previously she gives feathered bites, still giving herself the most bites, although some are after failed attempts to give it to them. I hope the last egg hatches during the night and the 3 are close as possible in age. It's going to be a little rough at times, but she sure is trying and I think she'll get there.

Who was the Mom at another nest who gave them the whole bird and expected the chicks to eat it last year. It was a new mom, but she fortunately learned fast. It was really funny. She seemed to say "go ahead--eat. It's yours."

She fed them again in the last half hour. I didn't know about the Gallery until tonight. This was from that.

I remember years ago at Weber, our new female , Green girl, plunked the bird down in front of th e chicks. WE were lucky to have a great male that guided her.
most learn fast.
the female at Mill creek is new and she struggled first few times but is doing well now. Still a few hiccups but a fast learner

:eggthumb: Catwoman, I remember another Mom doing that (offering whole bird) as a 1st timer and thought it had to be from 1 of the nests I watch which lessens the field, but I can't think of who it was...

Came in on feed in progress by 1st time Mom here. After over went back to see all of it. Still offering up heavily feathered bites, but she got more into them and took less bites for herself this time (significantly so). Oldest chick actually went into a food coma and then the younger one was getting bites exclusively. She offered up another leg with feathered mass on 1 end and a foot dangling on the other, but there were no takers... :teehee:

This I thought was a cool picture--Mom standing over her sleeping babies looking at them adoringly! :loveheart2:

:flirty: I love this young inexperienced Mom and expect her to do well here! Awhile ago, I was going through their DVR looking for feeds as I have been through out the day. I noticed there had not been any for about 7 1/2 hours or since the feed I described above that took place before 7 this morning. I noticed that she kept getting up and going offscreen and calling for HopperJet. She certainly was showing the proper concern and the behavior to go along with that including not leaving the chicks to go hunt. I don't know why he was unable to bring something in sooner as it was a nice sunny day, but I imagine there was some reason. She did kick him out earlier today when he covered for her while she took a break. Hahaha! She started the feed and we saw about 4 bites given, 1 unsuccessful to the youngest. She still is giving heavily feathered bites and the oldest got the 3 successful bites we saw and had a crop immediately after she gave it a bite with a lot of feather. Then it became a blocked feed for the remainder of the meal. Afterwards they both seemed to possibly go into food comas as Mom went and stashed the remains for later.

:loveheart: At 3:45 HopperJet brought a hunk of already prepared prey to Mom. The oldest chick still had a crop from before and got most of the bites. The youngest got a couple bites after the oldest was done. It stretched up a couple times so much that its head shook a little. Mom had a few bites during and after the meal. She even ate some feathers off the ground. And back to sleep and covered by Mom.

She fed them for a long time, for their being so tiny. View blocked by Mom but I could see that she was feeding them. :CLAPS:

:eggthumb: I saw that and when she was through, she continued to stand in front of them to shield from the sun, so we couldn't see their crops which they surely had after that long feed. Nonetheless, I think Mom is over the hump now of her feed learning curve!!

Cam zoomed in on the egg. Wonder if they think its going to hatch. As SWINWK posted in Break News, Harrisburg hatches took a week to complete. It might hatch, but I'd just as soon not have an extra mouth to feed for the new Mom.

:15heartbeat: They did several close ups through out the day looking for a pip, but none found that I am aware of. Mom's feeding skills certainly have improved. HopperJet stops by the nest for a few seconds each evening within cam view. He even brought a late night snack tonight. The Mom does not seem to want him around the chicks which is a shame as he has always been very interested in his chicks. In this regard she very much reminds me of Niecey at Harrisburg. She did go on a break today and he came in to brood for a few minutes which was the 1st time since they hatched as far as I know. Hoping she relaxes this in time.

I thought the shell was different this morning, and I couldn't find the egg! Well, big difference between the sizes of the newborn and those that hatched a few days ago. Let's see how attentive the new Mom is to the third one. HopperJet has got 85 beat in huntering skills, so I hope for the best here! :10sum:
