Is it just me, or are there more unhatched eggs than usual everywhere this year ?

I don't track a lot of nests, but Indiana has its share for sure. It will be interesting to get John's reports that list all Indiana nests, number of eggs, hatches etc.

Thank you, Terka- it looks like Moxie and Jamie are going to have to step up their feedings of this little one. That was quite a mouthful of feathers he/ she ate! It made me smile too how it explored the nest box while he was alone, and also how it seemed to enjoy spending time with the parent. I think this was Jamie the whole time?

Little one got a feeding a little bit ago, now it’s enjoying some bonding time with dad...I haven’t seen Moxie lately. When someone sees her, would you post it for me? Little one has been trying to wingersize this morning, too. Almost falls over each time it tries...

Ive thought the same thing, Catwoman...but if (she) had had siblings, I don’t know if the parents hang around much then, either. When she was there with Jamie just now, she was sleeping over by the wall and then got up to be near her dad. He did give her some peregrine affection ( while still hanging tight on the eggs...)

Well, baby is home alone...Do the parents realize the other eggs will not hatch? I hope they don’t leave (her) alone too often. She is still very young. Reminds me of Lansing a few years back when there was only one hatch and the parents left it alone....

I Love seeing a parent with the little one. Moxie is standing next to (her?) as little one huddles close. I wonder if Moxie and Jamie have given up on the eggs? PS, Gigi, will this chick be banded on May17 also?

I believe Brad from DNR will band Ft. Wayne on Tuesday at 10 AM.

Missed the “snatch”... nest box looks cleaned out, no debri, no old eggs. Moxie is practically tapping her talons in impatience to get her baby back. Perched on the edge of thee nestbox looking back behind the box where the intruders come from...YELLING and YELLING- are they coming back? Yes! Here comes the chick in a bucket :biggrin:

The human puts the chick in the nest and reaches in to get some debri - And the chick goes after his hand! He playfully shakes his finger at the chick. Men leave, chick seems calm, not freaked out at all. Moxie off to the side keeping an eye on those humans. Moxie comes to the nest box, and chick rushes over to her :loveheart:
