An article from The Atlantic: "HOW ANIMALS PERCEIVE THE WORLD" It is long but well worth the time to read it. |

Thanks, gigi! I really enjoy reading and learning about things such as this...will not know the outcome in my lifetime, but at this point it doesn't look to be a favorable one... |

Yes, heartbreaking as I sit outside with the dog watching and listening to overhead FedEx jets fly overhead preparing to land at the airport miles away. Bright headlights pierce the “sort of” dark sky. One after another disrupting who knows what. And in my own yard, a light turned on for security. Fireflies abound. Please don’t think I am disparaging FedEx. We want our goods and they are just one who meets our insatiable desires In my lifetime? Probably not. |

A sad article from The Guardian about Avian Flu - mostly in the UK. |

Gosh...what a heartbreaking article, gigi...and here I thought the US had it bad...but, I don't think it was this bad... I used to joke that the cockroach would be the last survivor...now I'm not so sure...It appears the virus may trump that....not only in human populations but animal as well. About human intrusion in nature...I watched a fascinating PBS special about Appalachia. One segment featured an individual that does nothing but record nature's sounds in remote mountainous areas: frogs, owls, crickets, fox, silence etc. I was fortunate to grow up on enough acreage to hear all of those things at night, but wonder how many have never heard the deafening sounds of hundreds of crickets in the middle of the night |

Do you remember the name or have a link to the PBS Appalachia episode? I poked around and couldn't find about that subject matter. There are so many options on series: Inside Appalachia; Nature; American Experience; POV; and more! I just haven't hit the right one yet!!!
