Chad Steele posted a picture on FB of the vehicles being frozen over, and it made me go right to the cam. and I found some info finally about 2013 season.

2013 Birdcam Timeline
March 19: A banded male falcon returned for the second year to the nest box, Sawatzke H/34, from the Xcel Monticello Plant in 2009.

March 29: A banded female falcon arrived at the nest box, Mary Ellen 11/X. Mary Ellen was banded at the Queen’s Bluff in Great River Bluff State Park on 5/15/2012. Mary Ellen still has her juvenile feathers, courting took place.

April 22: The first egg was laid.

April 24: The second egg was laid.

April 26: The third egg was laid.

May 29: The first eyass hatched.

May 31: The second eyass hatched.

June 20: The eyasses were brought down from the nest box for banding. Amy Ries from the Raptor Resource Project came to assist in the banding the eyasses. There was 1 female eyass and she was named Patricia B/90, and one male who was named Lucky 92/N.

July 6: Patricia was the first eyass to leave the nest box.

July 7: Lucky left the nest box to join his sister on the scrubber rooftop

September 21: Patricia was captured in Genoa, WI and immediately released; she was healthy with a full crop, already 165 miles south of her natal nest site.

October 16: This is the last day that Sawatzke was seen at the nest box, he migrated south for the winter.

November 25: This is the last day that Mary Ellen was seen at the nest box, she migrated south for the winter.

Note: To date 21 eyasses have fledged from the Great River Energy Elk River ~ Energy Recovery Station.

Thanks for the 2013 nesting recap, Kitten! Good to know that Patricia was seen after leaving the nest & appeared to be healthy! :flirty:

I guess somebody at the plant must have been paying attention to these birds cause they turned the cam off really early this year. I'm surprised that Mary Ellen migrated this year since she didn't last year!
:3snowflake: (Actually, I thought we watched her at the nest pretty much all last Winter so she would have been there before the male, or am I out to lunch?)

Well I remember she was there during some bad snow storms,
Oct 2012 Beverly from North Dakota, showed up then left then a few stragglers
then nothing til March 15th when Munchies got Mr. S at home
And then she showed up and stayed March 29th
So I'm think they both have migrated I looked in a lot between Oct & March and never saw anyone there.
Darn that means we have long time yet. :gaaaaah:

Actually, I think that was King that she was hanging around before showing up at Great River, but she was there in the thick of Winter.

Yes, there are brains still working, but mine isn't one of them! :teehee: It would be nice to see if she is at her "winter home" rather than having migrated, but unless somebody at the site reports her presence, we won't know.

Yes, it would be interesting to know if she had returned to Black Dog for the winter. Well dang, we can't see anything. :sum6:

***UNOFFICAL CAM UPDATE***
I looks like Mary Ellen is back! We are trying to get the cam on YouTube this year to make it easier for all you Mac users out there. Minnesota has been buried in LOTS of cold and snow all winter, so we didn't really know when the falcons would be back. Needless to say they beat us back. We are not quite ready with the camera yet. So... in the meantime you can catch the Elk River falcons on
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuyfD44okYE

PLEASE NOTE: This URL is only **TEMPORARY**. I will post here again when we have the permanent URL.

Enjoy! Tammy
