1:05pm - Feeding is going on. Poor little one fell backwards and can't get back up. I don't know if one of the older ones is on his wing, or if he just can't get up/rolled back over. He's been trying for minutes now. What confused me was he was facing in the complete opposite direction when feeding was going on.

I think there might be something wrong with this little one. He doesn't seem to be growing as fast as I would expect, or the other 3 are all girls.

I hate watching this part. I hope Cher comes to help.

Little one got nothing. He's still on his back & the other 3 are now huddled. Cher has just come back and is getting on the kids. Hopefully she flips him up.

:girlsad3:

Since she got back on them, haven't seen them yet. When she was getting on them, he was still on his back. I just posted 8X video of feed.

So, others are 5 days old today, he's 3 days.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...poor little thing...I think they get so exhausted from begging, that its hard to get the energy to turn over and get back up..

Its gonna be hard to watch this nest if Dan and Cher don't become more aware of who needs to eat...plus, we know there will be no intervention here in case the little one gets in trouble.

I'll keep the cam up...

I know. I feel like I'm being so negative, but I just have to mentally prepare myself. I know they've had blind babies born before. I'm not saying he's blind, but the facing in the opposite direction and inability to right himself have me concerned. I thought there was another nest somewhere that had a baby fall over like that and it wasn't a happy ending.

1:42 - Cher just got up and he's righted now. Hopefully he gets fed on next feeding.

ETA: SGB - I know you are covering so many nests. I have the cam up and will keep recorder on, so you can use the resources for other sites, if you want.

Cher just dashed off...Baby was able to upright itself and still seems rather feisty...it took a few minutes, but it managed to climb out from under the chick pile...let's hope its in the front for the next feed.

You know, these next feeds are going to be telling. some parents are just more aware than others. Elizabeth from James River Bridge was notorious for aiming for the mouth. As good of a mom as she is, if you were the last chick hatched, you rarely stood a chance. Several rescues over the years to save the youngest...really difficult to watch..

On the other hand, I have seen some parents deliberately reach over and feed the youngest, who seem to always be in the back...I hope Cher and Dan will be this type of parent.

....and you are right, mwplay...I'm trying to record others to get egg counts...watching Pulliam now...LOL...

3:03 - Another feed. No one - not even baby is that hungry. Baby is now caught in middle of pile. They all seem to be going back to sleep. I'm sure she will get them started..

3:06 - They are up now. I think Baby is trapped beneath them. Barely able to get his head up because he's being squashed. Okay, he's gotten up.

Baby is now in front, but the older ones are jumping over him to get food. Now he's getting fed. Poor little one. He's so uncoordinated compared to the other 3. But, at least she's feeding him first, Thankfully.

The little fart is still eating!!!

I'm glad things were looking better for the little one the last time you saw him, mw! I'm sorry you had to go through that worry. :egg15:

As far as being blind, none of them can see until they're 4-5 days old, so its possible that the older ones can just now see. He'll do better in the next day or 2.

Loved the vids, mwplay, especially the tandem feed one...It didn't look like the baby got very much, but the "little fart" looked like it already had a pretty good sized crop!!

When I sped up the video, I can see how the little fart got to the front of the pack!

Just watched the end of a feed, so I guess the best chance of the little one being fed. She did seem to focus on him and he appeared to be getting a few bites, and fell over once afterwards.

Unless they are really zoomed, you can't tell what they are getting, they did zoom but after it was all over.

Those "little farts" usually end of being really tough, cause they have to be! Thanks for the videos, mw, & the captures, ljames!

the youngest one at Bell, sure learned last year. He would wait back and then scoot her way to the front and just stayed there and I thought she would never get lift off.

6:25am - Breakfast about to be served. Not 100% positive, but I think this might be Dan feeding? Feet look smaller and orange to me. Of course, it could totally be Cher...

3 oldest are 1 week old today. Youngest is 5 days. Either we have 3 girls and 1 boy, or something else is going on with the youngest.

Again, he is faced in the completely wrong direction at beginning of feed. Other 3 are eagerly eating while he's trying to tuck in near siblings. He's finally turning around. Maybe this is a second feeding as these kids seem hungry, but not starving as if they haven't eaten for 10-12 hours. Maybe that is why the youngest isn't rushing to get to front of pack, or really seemis interested in food. He does look like he's got a little crop.

He's made it to front of pack, but isn't trying to grab food like older ones are. I guess at 5 days, I expect him to meet parent 1/2 way when eating, or eagerly moving toward beak to receive food. He's just waiting for food to be put in his mouth. When parent tries to get food in mouth, it's like he doesn't close his beak in time to grab food. In a way, it seems like parents are making sure older 3 have plenty of food, then if enough, 4th gets some. Maybe they sense something isn't quite right. Not sure..

Feed is over and I honestly don't think youngest got anything.

Will continue to watch, hoping that all my thoughts are wrong...

Well, that was Cher at the earlier feeding unless I missed an exchange. Another meal is being served now - 8AM PT.

Little One is in front, but facing in somewhat wrong direction. He turns towards back wall.

Okay, actually, I think there is something wrong with his right eye. I noticed a dark spot on his cere earlier this morning and shrugged it off as being from a feeding. Well, I think he can't open his right eye, which is why he's facing the weird direction.

The other day, there was a feather stuck to his eye, and I just thought it was a feather. Now I wonder if there was a puncture to his eye. I can't remember what day I saw this. I think it might have been Friday or Saturday.

He is not being fed at this point - feed well underway. Cher tried to give him a piece and he just didn't close his beak fast enough. Probably was too big of a piece.

Towards end of feed, looks like Cher is trying to give him a few pieces. I really wish the older ones would fall asleep so little one would get undivided attention.

I'm sorry... This is hard to watch. I just don't think this little one is going to make it. I just hope that if he is going to pass, it happens quickly.

I'm not going to upload the feed, but here's a quick shot of his eye. I've pointed towards the closed eye and the top of his cere where there is a dark spot. I'm sorry the picture isn't very big and will try to watch him today to see if it opens.

I'm including the video at regular speed so those of you who have more experience can look and tell me if I'm off my rocker.... I was recording 2 nests at a much smaller window size when feed started. There's only about 1 minute of the feed missing and it really was more prep and getting the kids up and begging. Little one did not receive any food during the very beginning of feed.
