If I may weigh in...I'm no expert either, but I would choose snow and cold. I too have fear of the chicks/eggs drowning or becoming so wet that hypothermia takes over.

I think experienced eagles are a great example of being able to tolerate mounds of snow. Granted, they really need to have eggs/chicks covered well, but snow building up can also serve as insulation. I think that's part of the reason we see eagles buried in snow..and if you notice, the snow doesn't melt either...so, those feathers are great at trapping warmth for the eagle.

I don't think falcons have quite the history with snow that eagles do nor do they have the massive wings that eagles do to protect the eggs and melt a larger space for eggs/chicks...but, I remember seeing the female falcon in Nottingham buried up to her eyeballs in snow, was it in 2012? . She did such a great job!!! It was the torrential cold rain last year that killed all but one chick!!!

:egg8: Just saw Jack come in and check on O'Connor and their eggs. He stayed for one refresh, and was gone....

I recordeded almost the entire 2 hours in 15 min increments. At one point, I thought maybe there was a change. I'll post pictures.

The refresh doesn't always "refresh", so I'm sitting there, thinking nothing is moving and obviously they are...

Are you home so you can watch YT vids? If so, I'll convert, speed up a bit and you can then see difference.

Excellent. Okay. I'm converting now. I've got one other vid too. I think he may have come in for a very short break - like 4 or 5 minutes earlier. I kept looking at vid trying to figure out if there was a change because in 1 frame she was and next, looked smaller facing back louvers.

Give me just a few minutes and I'll post.

Here's from 1045 - 1155.

I've sped up the vdieo, but tried to put in caption's where they may have been a switch.

It seems O'Connor faces the long ledge when on duty and maybe Jack faces the back/louvers when on duty?

I think there may have been some kind of switch at:

:24 seconds in video
:43 seconds (here, I stopped 1 recording and picked up and missed possible switch)
5:39 mark
6:45 mark

Carly - At 6:39, did Jack come in or did O'Connor just rotate? My refresh cam froze, and I recorded a white screen, but the next refresh, I see she either moved, or this is Jack. If she moved, then I would say I did not see Jack this morning.

I can't tell when the bird positioned in this angle. Okay, I think this is O'Connor. I have the one frame right before it went white. I think she just rotated.

So, unfortunately based on that, I don't think we saw Jack today. :girlsad3:

And with your picture... definitely don't think I saw him today.

Okay. I'm going to upload all the raw videos in regular speed. I need to convert a few. I'll load up what I've already converted now. I'll come back and post links here.

This was from my last recording. I just stopped it and was looking through it. It was 39 min. All of a sudden, I saw 2 and had to quickly back up to make sure my brain was processing it right... WHEW. I'm so happy.

Nothing but rain expected for the next 5 days. it's been horrible here, cold and wet. Poor O'Connor is soaked to the bone as the rain has been blowing sideways so she's not even protected from the roof above her.

Hatch eta earliest is this coming Sunday:

O'Connor was very restless this morning and turned down a shift change. Jack stayed 10 minutes and she refused to get up or leave. Home now and notice she is sitting differently too...hmmm..

Totally different!!!

Her back is up...

Looks like she's wiggling on the eggs.

Hard to tell, but maybe some activity on the egg on the right. I think I see a small white spot.
