Well we might as well get everything over with in one day. Have to give Matrix credit for being on top of this one. His experience with birds hopefully saved Reign. Also want to say for everyone not in this area Chad and Chris Saladin do so much in NE Ohio for the peregrines. They are everywhere when they need to be and a big thanks to our DOW office Laurie Graber for being there today and getting Reign out and to Medina Raptor.
I went downtown after work and Chad and Chris were still watching. One is out of sight on the Huntington and one made his way back to the Canton Club. A good burst of air and he would have been back at the nest box. Instead he'll be spending the night on a lower ledge. Mystic seemed OK with the little guy on the Huntington so he must be in an acceptable place. Mystic was doing short joints and checking on everyone. She did bring in prey and feed the one on the tower. C & C did not have a report on Reign yet but I'm sure it will be forth coming. Matrix will be there in the AM keeping watch. Some from this evening and put some more on the FB page.

Tiny leg dangling on this one.

Just a ledge below but he was done moving for the day.

Well he's hungry.

From C&C's Facebook page:

C&C's Ohio Peregrine Page Got home late, but wanted to give at least an update about today. Of course there's so much more to say/write, but here's the basic rundown: DOW's Laurie, Chad and I tried to retrieve Reign as she was the only one in the box, but by the time we got up there one male had rejoined her inside while the other male was on the porch. It was our concern in getting her that the males could fledge prematurely, and that's what happened, as the one on the porch left as we approached and the other as Laurie was in back of the box. The good news is that they both flew well (wind aided). The first fledge made it to the top of the Huntington; the second flew all the way over to the AEP tower where we found him after a brief search. He made two additional flights, ending up on a thin ledge of the Canton Club building just below the nest ledge (right side). Mystic and Mo both tried to coax him to a larger ledge, but he laid down instead. Cheryl came to check and after watching with her briefly we left (can't thank you and Chad Steele enough for your supportive information through the day, Cheryl)! As Chad Steele first speculated from the cam views, Reign has a serious case of trichomonaisis. Laura from the MRC got her to Dr. Riggs right away for treatment and her throat was nearly closed off from the trich. He had to insert a tube to open the airway and to feed her, so she's in pretty critical condition and clearly would have died soon without the early detection and retrieval. As mentioned, there was risk involved in getting her (particularly regarding the two males and their unintentional "forced fledge", which is why there was hesitancy to try a rescue at first. Yet another argument could be made that the longer she was ill in the box the males could have reportedly contracted trich from her. Sorry so late with updates and don't know exactly when we'll get to images and/or video (if we can get it working), but the important thing is that it's so far so good for the males and at least Reign has a chance that she wouldn't have had otherwise. Thanks to everyone for the support and information, and especially to Chad Steele for noticing she wasn't "right" so early on! Very tired, but will try to get more on soon. Goodnight!

Way to go, Matrix! So glad your observations caught a problem with Reign early enough to give her a chance at beating this awful disease! Cheers to Matrix! :corkpop:

Thanks for posting the FB update, mwplay...and again...a HUGE :bravo to Matrix for staying with this issue...and of course this could not have even happened without the support of C&C, Laurie, and everyone else involved..

Fingers crossed that we continue to get good reports on the boys...and that Reign is recovering..

Posted 47 min ago on Canton FB page..(matrix is down there watching)

One is still in same spot as yesterday and the guy on Huntington as still not shown himself.

Chris Saladin Glad Chad is able to get there today. We won't make it back again until Saturday due to work. We talked to Huntington maintenance yesterday and the roof has about a 30-inch high rim, so maybe if that male is a little tired out he'll wait to jump up. We did hear him calling up there as the adults soared over yesterday. Thanks guys! Also forgot to thank Laurie Graber and Laura Cooper Jordan in our last update... you two are awesome and "always there"!

We sometimes wait fo r hours to spot one. they can lay so flat and still you have to watch for just a little moment.
probably still wondering why it is there and not at nest box.

Fingers crossed

:thankyou At home now...starting on pics. I did get a visual on the one boy on the Huntington..He was sitting on the east wall, away from downtown, as I was leaving. It had begun to and is still lightly raining, and Mystic had given both boys bites, but, but she wants them to fly and didn't fill them up. All was quiet and well as of 2pm. Rain is to continue so hopefully they do not attempt to go anywhere.
My thoughts are on Reign. Talked briefly to Chris, and she has it (trich) pretty bad... However, getting her fed and hydrated can do wonders. She was with Dr. Riggs (vet) last I heard. I hope she can pull through, even if she doesn't come back to here.
Watch details Later....

Thanks Back to You All~~!! Everyone here does so much for all the forums/nestsites... without a Great Place like BCAW, there is nowhere to gather to share. :bow

glad you had both both boys in view.

I have confidence that she will pull through. there is treatment . Our chicks had it bad 2 years ago and again , cam watchers pointed it out.

fingers and toes crossed

Amazing photos!

Question: Will this be Mo's first year on territory at fledge time? If I remember correctly, he was involved in a territory dispute last year and was in rehab and when released was banned by Mystic from returning to the territory because the kids had fledged. But I'm not sure about the prior year. For some reason, I think he came in after hatch, before fledge, or maybe after fledge? I seem to remember comments last year that Mystic was accustomed to caring for her fledglings alone, but not 100% sure.

Aren't they Great pics?!!

mwplay, here is the link to 2012, part one of three, of the CMNH forum. I started posting that year at the first of the year when Maverick was found dead below the Canton Club building (nest building) Each part is 33 pages...We moved to a user friendly forum (here) after that year.... Cliffnotes to your questions...Mo showed up as a 11 month old, the day Mystic laid her first egg. Two day's prior to that there was an adult male, "JoJo" there but after the 29th he never showed up again... Mo helped somewhat the first year then left when the four juvies began chasing him through the sky... He showed up after they disperced. Molted into his adult plumage, then in 2013 he was injured as fledge came close... Mystic had essentially done all the incubation, feeding and training the first year, and last year..the first being his lack of experience, and last year due to the time of his injury. This year is totally new to us, and he is doing Great..at least as much as he is "Allowed" by Mystic... She was mated to her grandfather for two years. He was Maverick...a awesome tiercel, and given a wide berth by many at fledge time, history says!! LOL

:girlyes: Thank you all for your kind words of reassurance that Reign will recover from her illness, and Meek and Echo will stay safe as they learn the ropes of flying....
mwplay, Mo was first spotted at the Canton box by (guess who - Chad !) on April 1,2012, described as a cute sub adult.... As you can see by C&Cs pictures, he has come into his own this year, becoming a helpful mate for Mystic....

Thank you Matrix and Tsusan for the link and info. I think Mo is doing a great job.

I don't want anyone to think I was questioning Mo's worth as a tiercel. I was just wondering Mystic's response to him now that 2 are fledged. Looking at C&C's pictures, when Mystic was immediately above Mo, and they commented, "Mystic over Mo as he starts to look a little cautious about this... ", then he goes talons up 2 photos later and the caption, "Mo turning in playful (but cautious) defense as Mystic flew closely over him...". All I could think of was "Poor Mo". I'd probably feel the same way if a falcon was right above me like that!

The flying display photos are gorgeous.
