Bird Cams Around the World

Missed the bonding session, but am seeing Lil Dad on the shield as of 11:45 this morning. It's very overcast here right now. There are a couple days of 90+ degrees coming this week according to the local weather reports.

Got downtown a little after 5:00 this afternoon. For half an hour saw no falcons, but around 5:30 Lil Dad flew down Aberdeen and landed on the point with some prey. He ate most of it, then flew around with it for a bit and landed back on the point. No juvies around, so I went down to the Subway to grab a sandwich. When I returned, one of the girls was up on top of the column. She stood there for a while, and then came more to the front of the column where she was eating something for a good 15 minutes. Green landed on the roof right above her, but didn't attempt to get any of the food. Somewhere around 7:30 Sue joined me on the roof. Lil Dad came to the steeple after being over on the window sill around from the nest ledge for a while. Not sure what time, but he got some prey and we saw a mid air food transfer between Lil Dad and Green, who took the prey to the top of the column, and then I think over to the U roof. Sue was pretty sure the girl that had been on top of the column was Blue Girl, so we started wondering where Red Girl was. Can't remember all of this but eventually we saw three juvies. They were still flying around at 8:45 while Lil Dad watched from the top corner of 333. Green finally landed on the top louver ledge behind 333, and not too long afterwards one of the girls landed a few ledges below him. The other girl had been on the U roof, but she flew to the 13th floor ledge of the Carson Building to spend the night. Never did see Niecey, but from Reenie's pictures, Niecey was in the scrape while some of this was going on.

I got to the top of Chestnut Street Garage around 7:15, and got my spotting scope set up, and took a few pictures of the two juvies on the Carson building before I realized that Jane was sitting at the corner of the roof, obscured by the bend in the wall. We had a good laugh about that! The light was already fading a bit, so even with the scope, I couldn't get band readings, but the eyebrow markings were readily visible, so I could tell that it was Green on the roof and Blue on the top of the column. Around 7:50, Green jumped down to the top of the column to try to get a bit of the leftovers that Blue was still picking at. A few minutes later, he flew to the top of one of the glass cubbies toward the U, and almost immediately, Lil Dad came from the side of the Carson building to sit on the steeple. Both kids kicked up a ruckus as soon as he appeared, and kept up the squalling for about 20 minutes - I'm sure anyone watching the cam could have heard them. Finally around 8:30, Blue Girl took off to chase Lil Dad from the steeple, Green also gave chase, and the three of them took a lap or two around the top of 333 before Lil Dad grabbed some stash from one of the louvers and did a mid-air prey transfer with Green Boy. Green Boy carried his prize to the top of the column, Blue flew around a bit before settling on top of 333, and Lil Dad went straight back to the stash and grabbed another bird, defeathering it a bit before he carried it to the top of the column, with Blue in hot pursuit. Their arrival sent Green flying away with his dinner, to land on the ledge for a bit. Things settled down for about 5 minutes, and all of a sudden, Red Girl showed up, we didn't see from where, screaming and demanding a piece of the action from Green. Green vamoosed to the louvers under the U roof, and I think he carried his dinner with him, because Red then tackled Blue on top of the column. Blue carried something to the U roof, but must have left a piece behind, because Red picked at it for a moment before following Blue to the U. Things settled down again for a moment or two, before all three juvies were flying around again, with Green eventually settling down on the top louver at the back of 333, and both girls shuffling around a bit more before settling down, but I don't remember exactly where they ended up. By this time it was too dark to see them, so we packed it up and headed home. This was the first time I got downtown since the day after fledge watch ended, so it was really great to see all three juvies and watch them playing together and flying so well.

Great pictures Reenie and great coverage from Sue and Jane being there. Such a wonderful Love Story in the Bird World!!

Am seeing a juvie on the ledge not real far from the stick doing some half-hearted preening. Can't venture a guess as to the gender. It's not scorching hot here, but it is VERY humid.

Yes, someone seems to be quietly watching the world go by from near the column at 4:45 this afternoon.

Other than being cooler, there is no comparison between looking at this computer and being down there on the garage roof. Can't see anything from here. And now I think Lil Dad is on the stick. And now gone.
