I'm so sorry to hear about this changeover. I know SW is loved by many. I just hope she is still with us and can find a safe, beautiful place to enjoy for the time she has left.

Carly, thanks for posting the link to the update. I really hate that SW has probably lost her nest and territory...I just hope she hasn't lost her life in the process. I keep holding on to the knowledge that we all thought Freedom had died...but, she hadn't. True, she didn't have the chance to spend her final days at her home, but was able to continue...at least for another year!!

Even though turnovers are inevitable, I still hate it, and sadly, I don't think this will be the last. We watch several sites with senior residents. Its really gonna be tough!! :egg15:

What sad news to hear that SW has been replaced. It doesn't seem possible. I hope that she is safe and maybe she is even with Ruth. Is that a possibility I wonder? Poor little Boomer too, he must be under a lot of pressure to impress the new girl.
These things are always so hard to accept.

it is always tough. and ditto what SGb has said. I hold my breath every year.

not every nest take over results in death of resident falcon. hopefully she has moved away with her young one.

but if you remember the start o f the season. no one thought there would be a season with SW . so this was a good year, here.

fingers are crossed

Very sad to hear about SW losing her nest, but hopefully she is still alive & not seriously injured. Its hard to imagine her giving up her nest without a heck of a fight, but its happened with other strong falcons. Could even have something to do with her concern for Ruth's safety, I guess. I feel a little better knowing that Newton is 12, as compared to a young falcon battling with SW.

I was concerned about Boomer as well, since Newton had a mate at the I-90 bridge. But after reading C&C's Facebook page & seeing that Bolt is 12 years old, Boomer should be fine.

I'll be watching for updates on potential sightings on Ruth & SW like everyone else.

Carly is right - sad and conflicted.

This is what is so tough about watching these cams especially when one is occupied with a beloved matriarch!! On one hand, I'm hoping that SW took Ruth and moved out of the area..on the other, I wish she could be found/spotted so that we all could know her status. I fluctuate between both scenarios, each having their own advantages.

I've also learned with this particular nest that nothing is "for sure" until that first egg is laid. Is Bolt okay? Will Bolt displace Boomer? Will another female displace Newt? Whatever the final outcome, if SW is not in that final mix, it will be a great loss and the end of a powerful reign!!

Where ever SW is, I hope she is ok. My fantasy if she doesn't reappear here?.....that she hooks up with Bolt (hopefully, he's ok too!!)

I was thinking the same thing, SGB! Maybe SW will hook up with Bolt & nest elsewhere. I'm a little confused, though, because I read somewhere that an adult peregrine was found injured in the vicinity of the I-90 bridge. At first I thought they were referring to Bolt, but then it sounded like he was OK.

Catwoman, it was another male found injured near the I-90 bridge. The thought was that it could have been in a territorial battle with Bolt. (hopefully I read that right)

Juanita posted some of her famous genealogies on CMNH...according to her charts, Newton is a second cousin to Ft. Wayne's Moxie...
