. . . Are you guys aware of the mom brooding 11 eggs in CA? Owlcam.net

Sometimes some of the eggs hang out because she can't cover them all. i hope that there is a core of eggs that get consistent brooding.

:omg Do you think that is a record?

did some brief googling and did not see a reference and I just have trouble keeping facts in my weary brain, but I think the largest number was around 18 and I think most hatched. I will try to find out more.

Hey Beth - yes I checked it out and even downloaded the video so I can see Wesley whenever I want! If you google her you can also see a video she did during a speaking engagement at a university or something, I had found that earlier, but didn't tape. She speaks alot about the "way of the owl". You know I am so smitten with these BNOWs and am tickled silly watching Starr mom with those adorable babies! I have brainwashed my 5 year old niece now, and she loves them too :arrhrt: I have a picture of 12 owlets together showing the size differences from the brood, and she wants it put on a blankie throw! Her mom thinks their ugly, but she just LOVES the picture whenever she sees it on my computer! :loveshow: You just can't help who you love, right? Thanks for the heads up. BCAW is the best forum! :hearts: :hearts:
Also, a shout out to fellow cam watcher PaulaP, your observations and posts on Starr are great! :waveht:

Thanks for your comment, LeeLee.

The only reference I saw to the 18 eggs was in a book have, Barn Owls: Predator-Prey Relationships and Conservation by Iain Taylor. There was no other info except saying that 18 was the upper range. I don't know if it is referenced in Wesley. My memory is soooo bad and even thought I have read it twce, I don't remember. Maybe something will come up and I can ask at Starr, too.

I wish the cams were all up at Wirral.

Have a great day!!

OMG 8 eggs! I agree and hope that she lays no more. May they all hatch and survive.
