Video: Starr Ranch Barn Owls Get Their Bands

All five barn owls get their bands today! This clip shows one of the birds being banded while a previously banded sibling looks on, hissing his disapproval.

Lock-on bands are used. These bands have a special crimping flange, thus locking the band around the bird’s leg and making removal very difficult. These bands are normally used for raptors and a few other birds which are capable of removing butt-end bands.

At IBRRC, we use butt-end bands for most of our birds.

Hey PattiO I'm still here but I had alot of problems with my computer yesterday.I read that we now have six owlets in the nest box,but I'm still saying we have seven.I'll try and get some pictures later tonight :wink:

Hey kittenface when do you think Mom will take a break and leave the nest box?It's really hard to get a head count when Mom is standing over them like this :roll:
