Presidio San Francisco GHO
March 3, 2019 It rained all day yesterday, she barely moved at all

Now I tune in this morning and ... HUH?!?
ONE EGG
Owl left the nest briefly and .. ONLY ONE EGG?
Later she began hooting excitedly, and her mate showed up with a meal.
She took the meal and flew off.
He looked at her, looked at the single egg, hooted, finally left
Males have a very keen interest in their eggs.
THEY KNOW thats their offspring

GHO lays 2nd egg 4:42am 2-9-2019
I have no idea what happened to the other egg

Terka - your pic of her on page 1 is BEAUTIFUL!

There is a new link for this camera. It won't be on YouTube or Facebook anymore for the time being, I think they were having streaming issues.

There were cam ops on the chat stream
They said the one egg broke during the storm and she ate it.
I saw the egg today but saw no pip
There will be a zoomer on duty soon, this cam can zoom in

Update on cam page
During the heavy storms of late February one of the eggs was cracked. The mother ate the egg as it was no longer viable. The resources of that egg, such as the calcium for the shell, are essential for owls and hard to come by so they were "recycled" by the mom. The incubation period for Great Horned Owl eggs is about 30-37 days, so we expect the egg to hatch soon.

Eggs laid February 5 and 9

I have been keeping an eye on presidio
soon for hatch. I sure hop e it hatches. this pair has done a great job. monsoon rains, wind, etc.

A lot say , male does not incubate or brood but it depends on site. remember valnont. snowflake and Dan. Dan was a great provider and he brooded eggs and chicks.

REALLY!?
I never knew a male GHO to brood eggs -
altho they are very invested in them
The male knows the eggs are his offspring

I pretty much gave up on San Fran owl egg hatching.
I check twice a day tho
