:1val: Although initially the mod thought it was A2 arriving to the nest at 4:00 am, it turns out it was Samson with A2 arriving at 6:54!! Nestorations are already in progress this morning with sticks and moss! Samson is currently on the tree.

:15heartbeat: Here's a video from this morning of Samson and A2 working on the nest by Mod jd_AEF:

"AEF NEFL Eagle Cam 9-14-19: Samson and A2 Begin Building a Nest"

American Eagle Foundation:

"In the NEFL nest, Samson and A2 started working together before 7:00 a.m., and the windy day did not deter them from their nestoration activities. AEF cam operators who monitor these eagles daily are gaining confidence that they intend to be a nesting pair and they seem to know what needs to be done. They are showing real teamwork and affection!" Video by jd_AEF (Just Ducky). ©2019 American Eagle Foundation.

:1val: Late last evening I posted about Samson and A2's last visit to the nest, but I do not see it now. Must have posted it at another site or forgot to submit it. They each came in during the early eve and did some nestorations and both left and came back with a stick to place before flying near the LYT for the night at 7:34 as can be noted per gretchen's report:

Sep 14, 7:14 PM
gretchen_AEF (Admin): SATURDAY TUCK-IN: Once again Samson and A2 were found perched in the pines near the LYT at 7:40 after they left the nest. Think they have found their favorite roosting spot! SED Y'all

Here's a great video of the arrival of Samson and A2 and their 1st visit this morning. Not sure if that was a "fleeting mating attempt" by Samson as indicated in the title or just an attempt to perch next to his "honey" ... Video by scyllabub:

:5val: "Samson & A2's wet morning get go, fleeting mating attempt, sun up ~ ©AEF, NE Florida Eagles"

And here is the weather report for today on "Humberto" the tropical storm and it's possible effects on "The Hamlet" from the mod:

Sep 15, 8:50 AM
suncats_AEF (Moderator): Tropical storm Humberto will bring some rain and winds from it's outer bands today, but the eye of the storm is out to sea, and nothing to worry about in the Hamlet. We will probably see some winds and on-and-off rains today.

Edit to add: Thought this was interesting ... Here's a reply from a former mod when it was asked on chat how large "The Hamlet" is (much smaller than I imagined) and if it could sustain more than 1 eagle pair:

LStaudt: as a former mod and someone who has been there many times, the closest nest was 5 miles away. The "Hamlet" area where the nest tree is a park-like setting a couple of acres, bordered by the road and waterway. hope that helps, and I'm not usurping an official answer :)_

:egg16: I was here when the eagle flew into the nest as described by the mod below, but this is not A2. This one still has brown streaks at least to the right, lateral, tail. Am trying to go through pics to see if "Mystery Lady", but I can not find any pics with clear views of her tail.

Sep 15, 10:06 AM
suncats_AEF (Moderator): At 11:02 am A2 arrives at the nest and hops up to Houdini Branches.

Just went back and the above comment has been removed by 11:37.

And by 11:39, it has been replaced with this retraction:

Sep 15, 10:38 AM
sharipf_AEF (Moderator): At 11:02 an eagle came in yipping away and we all thought it must be A2. It's hard to focus with the gusty winds, but after some long looks, we don't see the usual ID markers for either A2 or Samson, so we appear to have another visitor!

Edit to add: Here's a great video by scyllabub of the unknown eagle arriving to the nest:

"Who is this bald eagle? ~ ©AEF, NE Florida Eagles"

As of 11:51, there has not been a response by Samson nor A2 of the visitor to their nest and tree.

Here are some screen captures of the visiting eagle by scylla:

At 12:09 the visiting eagle is on the nest and doing nestorations ...

As of 12:18 the visiting eagle has been on "Lookout Point" for a few minutes.

The visiting eagle flew at 12:43.

Someone chatting asked the mod whether it could be Juliet or Romeo?

:dancegirl: Loza, I saw in chat where the mod was asked if the unknown eagle was Romeo or Juliet and the mod responded that from the markings they could see, it did not appear to be. I am hoping A2 and Samson will visit the nest tonight before they head to their sleeping spot.

Well, this is tricky! I was here for the visiting eagle as I posted about above that a mod posted was A2, but when they realized it was not they removed that comment and a different mod made another post that it was a visitor. I was also here for the eagle that another mod Id'd as A2 that visited for a very short period shortly after that 1st visit, but I did not post and I believed it was the same unknown eagle that had just left as it had the same brown markings in it's tail to me. This is what that mod posted at that time and it has not been retracted:

Sep 15, 12:24 PM
otd_AEF (Moderator): We have an eagle
Sep 15, 12:27 PM
otd_AEF (Moderator): She just now flew. Looked like A2.

I think this mod posted in the CDT or that is how it appears on my computer as I am in the CDT, as nest time the 1st time the eagle left was 12:43. So nest time observations are probably 1:24 and 1:27.

I was not here for the 3rd time an eagle came in, but believe it remained at least partially obscured for the duration of it's visit. And this is what the mod posted for that 3rd visit and she is still making post in CDT, but within the text of the last posts giving the actual nest times.

Sep 15, 12:52 PM
otd_AEF (Moderator): We have an eagle perching on the Long Range Cam. Hard to tell who it is.
Sep 15, 1:00 PM
otd_AEF (Moderator): Cam 2 shows eagle attempting to hide from us. LOL
Sep 15, 1:26 PM
otd_AEF (Moderator): At 2:20 there was a flyover but no landing of an eagle. Cam 2 and 4 are still observing an eagle perched on a nest tree branch.
Sep 15, 2:04 PM
wingman_AEF (Moderator): Good afternoon Hamlet viewers. We have an eagle in the nest tree playing peek-a-boo behind cam #1. Trying our best to identify.
Sep 15, 2:26 PM
wingman_AEF (Moderator): Unidentified eagle flew off at 3:23 pm

Now if this is clear as mud, I found a video by scyllabub actually showing the last few minutes of the 1st visit by the unknown eagle, the 2nd short visit by who I thought was the same as the 1st unknown eagle, but mod thought was A2 and the 3rd visit by the unknown mostly obscured eagle (note different time spans in video):

What I find very interesting is the absence of A2 and Samson since early this morning. It seems they do not find it necessary to defend their nest at this point and that surprises me some, although it is early in the season.

:buzzybee: Interestingly, Samson and A2 have not shown up to the nest as yet this morning:

Sep 16, 6:15 AM
jd_AEF (Moderator): We hear A2 is beginning to whine over at the Lumberyard so they may be arriving pretty soon!
Sep 16, 6:21 AM
jd_AEF (Moderator): 7:20 am Samson and A2 have flown from the LYT so they are off and running!
Sep 16, 7:04 AM
wingman_AEF (Moderator): Good morning from the Hamlet. No visitors at the nest as of yet this morning, but we have been hearing some eagle vocals nearby.

Also, they are reporting an eagle at 1:16 staying 5 minutes or less they believe was A2. I have not seen any captures.

I got here at 5:36, just in time to see A2 fly by the nest on her way out of the tree. Apparently Samson had left prior at some point. And from chat, there was a visit a few minutes prior to this that some thought was the unknown visitor with possibly A2 running it off, but can't go back to see as the DVR still works only on the 4K cam.

Sep 16, 4:38 PM
aka_AEF (Moderator): Welcome awesome Hamlet peeps! It is a very windy day here at the nest! We had a very quick visit at 5:04. Both Samson and A2 visited the nest briefly. A2 did her usual sounding alert! Samson flew and A2 continues to perch at 5:28 and off she goes at 5:36.
