A2 doesn't hesitate to take her "beak nips" at Samson when he tries to help place the branches! She ran him off twice doing this! Poor Samson and this is just the beginning of years of nips to come ... :teehee:

Edit to add: He flew at 6:04 per mod!

:7val: Both could be seen on the tree per cam 2 for awhile, but at 7:08 A2 flew followed by Samson! Remember when she used to follow him ...

gretchen_AEF (Admin): FRIDAY TUCK-IN: Samson and A2 flew in one by one and perched side by side in the pines at the LY. They were swaying away in the wind, but likely there to roost for the night. SED to our sweet eagle pair and to all. Check in bright and early. . .they will likely show up and put on a show!

:buzzybee: An eagle returned to the tree a few minutes ago, but so far the cam op is unable to bring it in view enough to ID d/t it's position.

Have been gone, but returned to find they believe the eagle that landed earlier today was Samson. While I was here, you could not see the top of it's head to check for the dark spot. And at times, it looked to be heavier than Samson, so must have been the camera angle I guess. Here's the AEF mods reports from this afternoon. Samson has been in and out and brought a fish to the nest to eat. I do not see him on any of the cams now. And check out the video of the barred owl that landed on the tree last evening

Sep 21, 12:39 PM
suncats_AEF (Moderator): Our visiting eagle remains on the upper Lookout Point branch at 1:35 pm. Doesn't look comfortable being in the tree.
Sep 21, 12:54 PM
suncats_AEF (Moderator): Well, it appears that our visitor was hiding from us, it looks to be Samson lol! He flew at 1:50 pm.
Sep 21, 1:20 PM
suncats_AEF (Moderator): Samson returns at 2:10 pm and continues to perch on high on Sunset branches, then flies again at 2:15. Maybe he's playing hide and seek with A2 in the thermals.
Sep 21, 1:29 PM
jd_AEF (Moderator): Here is a video of an owl visitor at the nest last night around 8 pm: https://youtu.be/AQM1uMOBxRc :taz:

"Hootie the Barred Owl has frequented the NEFL nest over the years. In this video, we were able to get a better-than-average look through the new long-range cam before he flew off into the night." VIdeo by jd_AEF (JustDucky). ©2019 American Eagle Foundation.

gretchen_AEF (Admin): PLEASE join us in twitch this afternoon at 3:30pm live from the new Welaka eagle nest where Connor, Doug, Nick and Jorge are doing a new cam installation! https://www.twitch.tv/americaneaglefoundation
Sep 21, 2:57 PM
aka_AEF (Moderator): Samson is on the Wallenda branch at 3:00 wind surfing! Good afternoon awesome Hamlet peeps! He hops to the nest then to Sunset Branch at 3:10. Samson flies at 3:15. Maybe he will be back soon! And he flies right back with a nice fish at 3:19. And it's gone at 3:25! Then to Sunset branch for feaking! Sorry A2, you snooze you lose! Samson flies at 3:56.

tweetie_AEF (Moderator): Our awesome ground crew member Glenn reports seeing two eagles perched at the LYT (lumber yard tree), likely our Samson and A2! We'll see if they decide to visit the nest again this evening!

Edit to add:

gretchen_AEF (Admin): SATURDAY TUCK-IN: Samson and A2 are tucked in their favorite roosting spot in the pines in the LY. SED y’all

Here are some pics from this morning. A2 is most particular about nestorations and stick placement. She nips at Samson whenever he attempts to move a stick. He eventually gives up to go perch outside the nest...leaving the nest building to the Mrs. A2 clearly rules this roost. :teehee:

704 AM - A2 on alert.
Image

705 AM - A2 with a hint of eye shadowing remaining after her molt. She still has a dark spot on her beak.
Image

738 AM - Nestorations. A2 is below. This is a nice size comparison between the two. Samson is much smaller next to her. She is a very large female, which AEF pointed out when she first arrived.
Image

1012 AM - Samson
Image

1024 AM - Handsome Samson with some peachy coloring to his white feathers. He still has a dark spot on top of his head, which is not seen in this pic. Looking back at past pics, his mother, Juliet also had a dark spot on her head in the same location.
Image

Talons for both birds look clean with no battle injuries. Hope it stays that way. Both eagles have been sleeping together in the pines at the lumbar yard, which was a favorite roosting spot for Romeo and Juliet. Like father, like son. Sweet dreams everyone.

:5val: Per mod, from about 6:00 this morning when they could hear A2 and Samson in the distance till their arrival 3 minutes later, they have been in and out a total of twice this morning with at least some work on nestorations, finally leaving at 8:31. At 10:20, nobody is home.

Today's events.

754 AM - Morning nestorations with A2 bringing in a big stick to the nest. Samson was right on her heels as she flew in. He perched in the pine. but then joined her in the nest.
Image

755 AM - Working together as a team. Samson on the left.
Image

758 AM - It wasn't long before A2 got nippy with Samson (left). Check out the look on his face. :teehee:
Image

759 AM - A2 going in for another nip at Samson. After this, he got the message and flew up into the pine to allow her to arrange the nest to her liking.
Image

922AM - Later that morning A2 perched in the pine and allowed Samson to do some nestorations on his own. :ohyes: Samson is here moving a big stick.
Image

Around noon. there was an intruder overhead. Samson was perched in the pine and began alarm calling. He flew off and two eagles could be seen flying circles over the nest tree. Samson returned unscathed and remained perched in the pine for a good 90 min. This is HIS nest tree!! Yesterday and today, Samson brought a fish to the nest that he ate. By afternoon, Samson was back perched in the pine and A2 later joined him, vocalizing on her approach. She is very loud!!

457 PM - A2 (below) arrives in the pine with lots to say. Samson was just looking down at her. She occasionally would yell out and loudly! Not sure what she wanted  , but they were heard mating after they both departed.

459 PM - A2
