Glad I got to see this. Makes me feel better. New male no where to be seen. Hope he shows up. Feel for her since she was by herself.

I always worry about Niecey , as it always looks like she has a tough time of it.
We know male has big shoes to fill, but NIecey will guide him.

LIttle dad is healing out there I know. I did feel , he was flying around there yesterday as Male flew in fast a few times and was looking at the skies, with head down. Niecey was on ledge so it was no t about her.

not many watching but I will keep a watch when I can. still cannot get good phot0 of egg

I can say that I DID see Little Dad mate with Niecey on Thursday morning, and it appeared to be successful. I did see 85 on the point a while ago, and he had trouble hanging on. i don't know what it is about the wind at the corner. Ljames, that picture of him looking in the back door is so bittersweet.

we will have to wait and see how long it will take male to help her incubate. We have been in this situation a lot at our in Edmonton. He may right away or it might take him awhile. So be prepared.
this will be males first nesting, and he was here earlier in season . each situation is different. Will be interesting .

Thanks for the video, Bev. We know that Little Dad would have ben on that egg as quickly as Niecey would have allowed him. Thinking of some things in the past. When Niecey first arrived in Harrisburg there were two young birds that were not hers. She wanted nothing to do with them, and Little Dad raised those two on his own. They had already been banded, so were not tiny little chicks. And in Wilmington several years ago, Red Girl's mate disappeared. Trinity came on the scene and adopted those birds like they were his. He has since become an awesome mate for Red Girl. Time will tell, but this is really tough for me to watch.

this is a video from Terkas picture and a few other things also. watch time a I edited it to get a few things in.

Video link

male has only gone in box once but as long as he feeds her right now, all will be fine

I read what Jane had said.and she is right

In all the years I have monitored from cams and from the ground, I have found that in most cases, the male will accept eggs that are not his. If a male comes in when the eyas are big, it can be a different story. At my sites we have had many takeovers over the years , all by males, and never a nest failure. The males either , at least provided food: or Depending on the time they came in , they incubated part way through and helped in raising them.
BUT when there is a female takeover, in most cases, the female does no t accept the eggs. Or , she leaves them and then lays her own, and then incubates them all. Examples are Gulf, years ago. and I think we are seeingthat now at Anacapa
Funny how that works .
We were amazed years ago at deMortel, when S2 eventually helped to raise the young. It was on Mothers Day. I will never forget that year. Funny ,as she tried to brood big chicks LOL This does not happen very often. But we had an excellent male there (Pa). It brought us all together as a world that year.

So this is hard, for most of us. But it is not the males fault. It is nature. And like others, I am hoping little dad rests and heals and puts his foot down one day, just to let us know he is o.k. We will love him always.

( just as an aside: a few years ago, we had a takeover at Weber, Edmonton, we had a few eggs just laid. The male was DO2. I loved that little man. I watched it happening for many days from the ground. Like you here, I saw him fly away and never saw him again, at Weber. BUT , the next year, when I was monitoring another of my sites, I could not believe my eyes. There was my little man. showing a new young female the ropes. . My heart was full. so we never say Never)
