There was a short clip about Niecey and her five eggs on our local news tonight. I plan on fishing out my memorabilia to see if I can find out how many times our beloved Mom laid five eggs, but I know without looking that it was more than once. If I can't find what I'm looking for, am pretty sure a friend would have that information.

Jane, this story is interesting.

There is a record from 2009. Mum and Lil dad raised 5 children then.
2010 also had 5 eggs. :attention:

I found what I was looking for last night. Our beloved Mom laid five eggs five different years. Little Dad was her mate for all of these years. In a few years, all five eggs hatched, but not every year. This is what i found.

2006 - five eggs, and five hatched
2007 - five eggs, and four hatched
2008 - five eggs, and four hatched - One of those four was Red Girl.
2009 - five eggs, and five hatched - One of these five was Green Girl, who is now in Cleveland, Ohio.
2010 - five eggs, and three hatched. This was Mom's last year. :-(

You're welcome, Terka. Hope everyone who reads this finds it interesting. I did not include how many males and females there were, but I also have that information.

Thankyou Tera and Jane.
I remember moms last year. I have 3 glasses with her picture lovingly painted on them I will take a picture later and post it here. I believe Sue did them and sent to me.

We never forget the past , but the future here looks great.

Niecey looks pretty bored with the whole situation at the moment. I did see 85 on the eggs this morning while Niecey got to take a break. It is VERY chilly here today, more like COLD. For the next two nights the temps are to go below freezing before it starts warming up again.

I'm pretty sure that was the year I was there, and watched White Boy fledge. If I remember correctly, Nancy and I were on the parking deck. I know for sure that Jane was on falcon watch down below with several others. Unfortunately, he went missing later and was found dead. The others were girls and one of them was actually first to fledge. Red girl? There was Green, Yellow, and Blue too. It seems like something happened to one of the girls too, Yellow? Or maybe that was another year. So many memories, joys and tragedies.

Hi SWINWK. Thanks. I have been lurking off and on. But have had some health issues and the virus twice. And you won't believe I nearly choked to death last night taking my pills, Ray had to do the Heimlich on me. :ohboy:
Nevertheless, I am ready to watch some bird cams.

Glad to see a post from you, ljames. So sorry you have had some health issues, and pray you are doing better. I believe you were here when White wound up in a small tree in front of the Carson Building, and Ray helped sue get him out. Thinking of what happened to White later is too painful for me to explain.

Nice article in today's LA Times about the peregrine falcons who are nesting at the Campanile tower at UC Berkeley. They have a facebook page with some good photos and a link to the article:

Ljames, nice to see you! White Boy and Yellow Girl are still on my avatar. Yellow Girl had a chipped beak from what they suspect was the fireworks in Harrisburg. They tried to catch her to help her, but she disappeared. :girlsad3:

:sum5: Oops, I read this and it said "pipping by next week"...finally it dawned on me...this IS next week!! From the "Falcon Wire":

4/5/2022 :: Get ready to watch for pips
In preparation for the upcoming hatch, Falcon Cam watchers should see pipping by next week. The hatchlings begin pipping (breaking their shells) about 24 to 48 hours before hatching. They will break a small hole through the eggshell using a growth on their bill called an "egg tooth." The egg tooth is not a true tooth and will fall off soon after hatching. These falcons will hatch with their eyes open and covered with a long, thin coat of white fluffy down. Newly hatched falcons are relatively helpless and unable to stand.
In the case of the Rachel Carson State Office Building (RCSOB) peregrine falcons, the female (48/AE) will continue to care for the young while the male (85/AK) will provide prey.
When the eggs first hatch, the female will brood (sit on or over the young) almost constantly. The female will feed the chicks by tearing off small pieces of flesh from prey provided by the male.
Stay tuned to the PA Falcon Cam to follow along!
