:15heartbeat: Late entry for the 17th. Redwood Queen and Phoenix were surprisingly together at Big Sur instead of one being with their chick. Hoping all is well.

:eggthumb: Phoenix was at Big Sur today. There was talk of maybe putting up a cam at some point before their chick fledges at the nest of Phoenix and Redwood Queen, but not seeing anything about it. I would think that would be soon if they are going to do it.

:eggthumb: Puff Daddy was at Big Sur yesterday 6/25/22. Was really hoping he would find a mate this past spring, but it just did not work out.

:flirty: Redwood Queen made an appearance at Big Sur today. Still waiting for word if they are going to place a cam at the new nest tree. Their chick should be ready to fledge in about 3 months give or take.

:eggthumb: Phoenix and Puff Daddy were at Big Sur today. And Iniko showed up at San Simeon where she was last seen here in April and last seen period at Big Sur in May. Always a relief to see her again!

:eggthumb: Phoenix and Puff Daddy were at Big Sur today. They have possibly placed a cam On Redwood Queen and Phoenix's nest site, but I am unsure as I see no announcement, but we have a new view that some are saying is their new nest (Phoenix's old nest).

:7val: The cam for Redwood Queen and Phoenix's current nest site just powered up and can be seen now. Update from VWS:

Condor Update- 7/13/2022

Hi All,
If you missed our last condor zoom chat (June 30, 2022) you can watch it here- https://youtu.be/cU0e9QlWyoE
Our next condor zoom chat is July 28, 2022 at 4 pm (PST), sign up here
https://www.ventanaws.org/zoom-chats.html

As mentioned in our last zoom update, we are in the process of moving the nest cam from its old location to Phoenix and Redwood Queen's new redwood nest just up the ridge. The cam should come back online today after the fog clears and gets enough solar to power up. Same link as before, https://youtu.be/xK42aMLMHZE
Unlike the old nest cavity, the view in to their new nest will be more obscured by redwood branches. We should be able to see Phoenix and Redwood Queen coming and going but it might be difficult to see in to the cavity where chick 1174 resides much of the time. As 1174 gets larger, it will be harder to stay hidden. Right now, 1174 is approximately 2.5 months old and about half the size of mom and dad and still covered with mostly fluffy gray down feathers. Over the next couple months 1174 will double in size and gain more contour and flight feathers. As 1174 becomes more active and begins branching out, we should get much better views.

Thank you for tuning in and sharing comments about the birds, we very much appreciate the help.

More updates to follow!

:eggthumb: Phoenix stopped by to see his chick #1174 this afternoon:

Capture by surfin59, Phoenix below the nest area. Scroll down to see all of him.

Capture by Cali Condor, Phoenix in the nest that she circled. You can see the #77 on his wing.

:girlcrazy: For me, it's as if I am looking at an abstract painting when looking at the nest area and tree. When the cam swings way out to the left, there is a beautiful view of the ocean and landscape that I can understand.

Phoenix and Puff Daddy were both at Big Sur today. They reported in their Zoom this afternoon that Iniko has been staying at Pinnacles with some other condors which was a relief to hear as we have not seen her for awhile. I am wondering if she will make Pinnacles her home base. Puff Daddy's son #745 (#2 son who is grown) is at the Condor Recovery Center and is receiving treatment for lead. From Oakland Zoo on Puff Jr.:

Condor #745

:sorrow: And sad news is Condor #972 has passed, although I do not know the circumstances yet.

Condor #972 on 5/5/22 at the waterhole. (Screen capture by Cali Condor)

:5val: Today Redwood Queen, Phoenix, Puff Daddy and Junipero visited Big Sur. Capture of Junipero who we haven't seen for quite awhile by surfin59:

Junipero remained perched in the tree for a long time today before he left.
