:girlcrazy: There's been lots of action already this morning and I missed some of it, but understand Holly was seen mating with someone. And guess who else was caught mating on cam with an unknown boar at this time, while 856 has been feeding at the falls? 856 was busy also between salmon bites!

Gif by Martina of 901 mating with an unknown boar from the LR cam while another bear strolls by. (Will 856 still pursue her if he hasn't mated with her off cam and unseen by viewers? Yes he will, sows can have multiple mates during estrus and therefore a single litter of cubs born that next winter in the den, can actually be sired by different boars. So always same Mom, but may or may not have same Dad.)

Gif by DanteV2000, 856 getting fed up with 2 sub adults that want his fish, so what does he do? Charge! (Gif was taken from the RF cam and there is actually much more distance between the bears than it appears here.)

Gif by DanteV2000, and what happens while 856 is charging at 1 of the sub adults? The other comes back around and steals his fish! (Gif was taken from the RF cam and there is actually much more distance between the bears than it appears here.)

:dancegirl: Here is the link for the 2 hour Q&A earlier. Scroll down past the thank-you's to see. There were great questions over many topics. One thing of special interest is does (83) Wayne Brother have a wound on his right foreleg or is it a snare? There is a large screen capture that shows the area of concern.

2 hour Q&A by Mike Fitz explore.org naturalist and Ranger Chris on 6/28/22. This should remain in the top position till next weeks Q&A, then it will be under that one and so forth as they will have weekly Q&A chats on Tuesdays.

I just read that Brooks Camp is under a boil order. From one day ago:

"Status Alert!
Due to a boil water notice at Brooks Camp, effective immediately Brooks Lodge is serving food to lodge guests only until further notice. Thank you for your understanding. This should be only temporary and we hope to have the issue resolved soon."

While we were not lodge guests, when I was there 3 years ago, we had lunch there both days and it was delicious. Nothing fancy, just good food! It had been arranged and paid for in advance.

:dancegirl: For those new to Brooks Falls Bear Cams, (480) Otis is the most beloved bear @ Brooks Falls. He is not the oldest, but not far behind (Patches AKA Digger is the oldest). He normally arrives around the beginning of July and as he has aged, viewers hold their breath each new season until he does arrive. Last season Otis was way overdue and even Mike Fitz thought he may have perished. Then he showed up late to the party on July 26th and looked to be in very poor shape and moving slowly. Otis's favorite spot to fish is in "The Office". And fish he did as in "marathon style", sometimes day and night without even leaving the water for 30 something hours at a time, consuming 30-40 something salmon per day some days. Otis went on to win "Fat Bear Week" last season, because of the difference he made in his appearance through the weight he gained, because he had survived, because he is the most beloved bear here. With all of his seasons fishing at Brooks...he is quite the angler. You too will fall in love with him.

Here are captures of Otis last season showing his poor condition and this season arriving in much better shape per stilling:

Otis on July 26th 2021 at 3:57 pm.

Otis on June 29th 2022 at 9:50 am.

BBL as I don't want to miss his arrival to the office or falls!

:eggthumb: Tonight they are doing a live "Play by Play". I am unsure of who the presenters will be, but it should involve a Ranger or two live from one of the viewing platforms at Brooks Falls and perhaps Mike Fitz remotely from Maine. They will focus and discuss what the bears are actually doing at that point in time and you will be able to follow along and see from this link:

Thursday, June 30, 7 – 8 p.m. ET/4 – 5 p.m. PT, BearCam Play by Play broadcast

All Live Events will be on the Brooks Live Chat Channel https://explore.org/livecam... unless otherwise noted

(Previous Live Video Chat recordings can be found on explore’s youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/e...)

:sum9: Lefty ( a medium-large bear) just left the lip around 10 minutes or so back. He returned to Brooks last evening and is another fan favorite, although not seen much last season. Last eve he was literally bouncing from spot to spot and seemed full of joy which he is known for his high energy and exuberance at times. He is called Lefty because of his wonky left ear that you can see in this gif by DanteV2000 of him on the lip fishing awhile ago. He is also a VERY skilled lip fisher. There is now a Mystery Bear who is unknown that arrived yesterday I believe, who is reeking havoc to the other bears by stealing their fish. More than 1 kerfuffle last evening. Lefty also was one of those bears that used to do this as when he was younger and arrived at Brooks he too did not seem to be skilled at catching them on his own, but that of course no longer holds true.

Lefty on the lip fishing.

Here's Lefty back in 2015 getting into a fight on the lip, then leaping off the lip into the water below afterwards. Video (35 seconds) by Explore:

Yesterday there was a huge confrontation between 856 (dominant bear at Brooks Falls for many years) and the mom 39 with the 4 first year cubs (coys). I believe 2 of the cubs ran off. I did not witness, but there are thousands of comments and observations in chat.
Mike Fitz tried to provide some insight which I am listening to now.
He is not at Brooks Files so he is relying on updates from the BF Rangers.

:15heartbeat: Thanks, gigi! I witnessed that live and could feel my heart for the entire episode and many minutes past it...

A viewer that was on the falls platform reported that 1 coy treed quite a distance from 856 and the other one escaped upriver and 856 who was quite winded gave up and went to eat salmon at the falls. Of course this is not considered an official update and we are to wait for any reports from the Rangers and Mike has said he would pass along when they do. Really hoping she will reunite with both of her cubs.
