:flirty: Right now, there is one lying on the ledge near the stick with its tail hanging off the edge. From the "Falcon Wire":

6/24/2023 :: Falcon Watch & Rescue concludes for 2023
Falcon Watch & Rescue volunteers were delighted Friday evening by the sight of all three juvenile falcons at play above the city's tallest buildings. Already proficient, Green and Yellow were finally joined by their sister Blue, who easily overflew the top of 333, made precise landings on both the RCSOB roof and nest ledge as well as on 333, and was actively engaged in games of chase with an adult, then later with one of her brothers. Falcon Watch 2023 ended on a high note, with the three young falcons arrowing in one by one, as darkness fell, to land right beside each other at the narrowest part of the nest ledge.

The three chicks have all successfully fledged. No longer eyases, they are now fledglings. Next up for them is more advanced flight training by their parents and lessons in hunting, so the young falcons will be ready to survive independently when the time comes for dispersal. Feedings will give way to prey transfers, which the adults will make more challenging as the fledglings' skills improve.

The fledglings will soon begin to venture farther from the nest ledge in the daytime, initially with one or both adults, but eventually on their own and for longer stretches of time. They are likely to return "home" for food and to sleep for the next two to three weeks, and significant falcon activity should continue to be seen near the nest ledge especially during early morning and early evening hours.

By mid-July, visits to the ledge will become less frequent as the young peregrines prepare to disperse from the natal area to explore the wider world and seek out a nesting territory of their own.

DEP would like to thank our Watch & Rescue volunteers and Red Creek Wildlife Center for all of your wonderful work. Thank you for your time, dedication, and care!

:egg8: Not seeing anyone right now. From the "Falcon Wire" on 6/30/23:

6/30/2023 :: Falcon fledglings learning fast
The three Rachel Carson peregrine fledglings are doing great, learning to make the most of their wings as they play together above the city. They are flying faster, covering longer distances, and staying airborne for longer stretches of time. The adults are teaching them about catching prey on the wing. And in the evenings they gather on the Carson building to sleep, even if they do not show up on the webcam.

The young falcons can still be pretty reliably observed near the RCSOB for at least a part of every day, but all too soon they will begin to wander farther afield, sometimes for a couple days at a time as they test their growing independence. In a few weeks, 85/AK and 09/BS will have the ledge to themselves. Already, you may notice one of the adults adjusting the bowl of the scrape. This is an early phase of post-nesting bond renewal.

For now, adults and young are kept quite busy preparing the youngsters for life on their own. But Summer is a short season, and in three or four weeks these fledglings will have all the skills they need for survival as they embark on the adventure of their lifetime. And in two or three years, perhaps we will receive a report that one of these falcons has been spotted at a nest raising young of their own.

The only falcon I've seen so far today was 85 earlier this afternoon. Last night I watched Blue for over an hour starting around 8:00. She had an entire bird, which I thought may have been a Mourning Dove. I wish I had seen where it came from. At first she had her meal on the fat part of the stick, but she drug it into the scrape. That's when I confirmed her via her band number. It was well after 9:00 when she finished her meal. She cleaned her beak on the stick, went over to the column, and then around to the other side. There have been some nasty storms in our area this afternoon, but so far all of them have missed Harrisburg.

:eggthumb: Right now, can see 1 almost on the other side of the column and 1 standing on the edge of the ledge next to the other side of the stick. Assuming both are juvies as you can tell very little of their appearance.

:eggthumb: Still checking in on this nest daily, but have not seen any of the falcons. From the "Falcon Wire" today:

2023
8/7/2023 :: Late-Summer Surprise
Alert falcon watcher Valerie Flanders, W&R Volunteer Shift Coordinator, reports seeing both adult falcons flying with two juvies around the top of 333 Market on Wednesday morning last week. It was the first juvie sighting reported in almost two weeks, proving that while the young falcons may have ventured out into the world, they haven't yet left home for good.
