Egg #2 has finally arrived!! It was nearly 72 hours between egg 1 and 2 - the longest time span for Astrid ever recorded.

Astrid laid her 3rd egg on Friday, March 29, and her fourth egg was laid today, March 31 at 2:06. Good Job, Astrid and Ares!

Today Ares is trying to entice Astrid into the nest box, but she says “not today”
EDIT- Just found out from the Utica Facebook page that a new unbanded female has been in the nestbox with Ares. :girlsad3:

After a slow start for the breeding season due to the loss of the resident female Astrid, and the appearance of a new unbanded female, named Serena, this are looking up. After Serena expressed little interest in romance, something has “flipped her switch” and many bonding displays have been seen.

New update for the Utica New York nest! Sadly “Serena” changed her mind and has moved on. However, the nest monitors issued this triumphant statement after a third subadult, unbanded, female that they named “Vera” came by : ”Vera is showing strong fidelity to both Ares and the nest site, and before our eyes she is learning adult peregrine ways.” Great news for them!

Vera, Utica’s 3rd female candidate, is a sub adult, a dark Beauty. She and the tiercel, Ares continue in their “getting to know you” relationship. Right now she seems very comfortable preening in the nestbox. :loveheart:
