Beleef de Lente barn owls initially had 6, but one died on the 30th. Stone owls have 2 and 2 unhatched eggs.

Hi everyone. Boy there are a lot of nests right now. Pretty soon Molly's kids will be gone. Owlivia and Owliver on ustream had 5 but two died early on. There are still 2 in the box during the day, but they, too will be on their way soon. Buddy and Fluffy, also on ustream, have 5 and the eldest is starting to peek out of the opening.

At the tawny nest (I know, not BNOWs) started out with 4, but three have died. According to the site, they are not sure why and think there may be a disease issue. :waveht:

Don't forget to check the Dutch "Beleef de Lente" Barn Owl webcam here either!

Esp. do watch the clip of 10-06: "Ukkie eet een hele muis" - smallest chick (actually, # 6 and 12 (!) days younger than # 1 and now 14 days old - # 5 died) swallows a mouse whole. Quite an accomplishment!

Right now, Ma is inside - soaking wet. Poor sight.

Kittenface, you ought to check out these 2 clips on the Kerkuil page:

"10-06: Ukkie eet een hele muis"
and
"13-06: Uk eet hele grote muis"

and you'll see that he's gaining skill quickly ;-) !

==================
Another hint:

the site of the Barn Owl (refresh) nestcam in Uden now has photo's up from the ringing session: (choose "Logboek 2010" in the left hand side menu).

Thanks everyone for the photos and info... I just didn't have the time this year to watch
many owl cams-sorry.

I do have a pic of the Wirral babies.

Thanks Bosuil :spingirl:

Like the Starr Ranch Barn Owls, the ones in Tirat Zvi, Israel also have started a 2nd clutch - and they're already as far as this:

Image

No idea when and how many eggs were laid, there's 5 chicks now, and plenty of food from what I saw this afternoon - Mom came inside and started presenting food from the still available preys, so in the night they hadn't even finished whatever had been "delivered". A hilarious bunch they are, once again.

Great pics everyone--the only problem is, I don't recognize the cams by the pics, so I would really appreciate it if you would indicate the location of the nest, especially if there is activity like eggs or new owlets! That would help me to do a better job of keeping up with the nesting calendar. Thanks much!
